Valkyrie Movie 2009

A presumed blockbuster in the new 2009 movies season, the new Valkyrie movie for 2009 experienced a series of delays and now has been set for theatrical release for the 2009 movies winter break season on February 13, 2009. The movie, a Tom Cruise vehicle, portrays one of Germany's only World War II heroes, or more aptly said, a pseudo-hero. It is not a remake of the numerous other Valkyrie named movies. With an original screenplay, the new movie is a fictitious semi-historical portrayal of Claus von Stauffenberg and the code-named operation valkyrie plot to stage a mid-war coup d'etat.

A German army officer, Stauffenberg aided and abetted the nazi war machine as it rolled across Europe and North Africa at the start of WWII. Later, as the war got bogged down for Germany and he got injured, his conscience is said to have intervened and he joined one of the plots to assassinate the nazi leader. It failed, and Hitler survived with injuries, in the end retreating into a hole like Saddam Hussein did 60 years later in Iraq.
